The Charlotte Barbarians' Summer 7's Success: A Promising Prelude to the Fall Season

The Charlotte Barbarians Rugby Football Club (CBRFC) have had a remarkable 2024 summer season in the distinctive blue and white. Known for their competitive spirit and dedication to the post-game, the Barbarians have made a significant mark in the Summer 7's circuit, setting the stage for a promising 15's season.

Summer 7's Program: A Tradition of Excellence

Under the guidance of head coach Ian Mueller, the Barbarians' 7's program is a breeding ground for talent and a cornerstone of the club. The summer of 2024 was no exception, with the team participating in 3 bigtime tournaments: the Cape Fear 7's in Wilmington, the Bull City 7's in Durham, and the Beer City 7's in Asheville. Throughout each, the Barbarians showcased growth and promise, securing numerous victories and outscoring their opponents by impressive margins.

Tournament Highlights

  • Cape Fear 7's - Wilmington, NC: The Cape Fear 7's, known for its competitive field and festive atmosphere, saw the Barbarians display a blend of speed, skill, and teamwork. Their performance was nothing short of stellar, with the team advancing deep into the tournament and leaving a trail of high-scoring games in their wake.

  • Bull City 7's - Durham, NC: The Bull City 7's provided another platform for the Barbarians to stand on business. Known for its rigorous competition, the tournament witnessed true Barbarians' resilience and adaptability, as they outmaneuvered rivals with superior fitness and teamwork on their way to placement in elimination rounds.

  • Beer City 7's - Asheville, NC: The final tournament of the summer, the Beer City 7's, encapsulated the spirit of the Barbarians. Their relentless drive and cohesive gameplay culminated in a series of emphatic victories, reinforcing their reputation as a formidable force in the 7's format. Another close loss in an elimination game leaves the Barbarians hungry for another opportunity on the pitch. Jeff is safe and accounted for.

Building Towards the Fall 15's Season

The success of the Summer 7's program serves as a critical feeder another of the club's primary focuses: the XV’s Men’s D-III Rugby program, which competes in the spring and fall. The experience and skills honed during the heat of the summer are invaluable, providing many reasons for optimism prior to the upcoming XV’s season.

The Charlotte Barbarians have their sights on the CGRU D-III Men's Rugby League playoffs this season. The blend of seasoned players and emerging talents from the 7's squad promises a dynamic and competitive 15's team, eager to make a significant impact.

Looking Ahead

As the Barbarians transition from the fast-paced 7's rugby format to a more strategic 15's game, the lessons learned and the confidence gained from their summer victories will undoubtedly serve them well. With a strong coaching team, dedicated players, and a supportive community, the Charlotte Barbarians are poised for an exciting and successful fall season.

As we look back on the Charlote Barbarians’ Summer 7’s season, strengths have been highlighted and the groundwork has been laid for future successes. Fans and supporters can look forward to watching a team that embodies the spirit of rugby and the pride of Charlotte this fall.
